Through years of experience in vacuum metallizing, we are able to specialize or extend our processes to meet the unique needs of every customer. REC is able to achieve military adherence of metallic and non-metallic coatings to various substrates such as plastic, glass, and graphite composites. With our current processes we can deposit aluminum, copper, gold, stainless steel, chrome, silver, magnesium fluoride, silicon oxides, and titanium. Although we are not limited to these materials, they are the most commonly used. We are willing to develop new processes to meet your coating requirements. If you have any questions or need any guidance as to which coatings meet your specifications, give us a call and we will be happy to assist you.
Our current processes include:
EMI/RFI Shielding
|
EMI Shielding
Rare Earth Coatings, Inc., can provide our customers with superior quality EMI shielding for electronic components. This prevents the emission or reception of electromagnetic interference. REC has the capability to provide EMI shielding with military adherence to components made of graphite composites or plastic electronic enclosures. Plastic is often used as an alternative to metal because it is lighter and generally less expensive.
Another advantage of plastic is that it offers greater design flexibility. However, plastic does not provide protection against outside electromagnetic and radio frequency interference. This interference penetrates through plastic housings and disrupts internal electrical mechanisms. To prevent electromagnetic interference, enclosures must be EMI shielded with electrically conductive materials. Therefore, we provide a uniform conductive coating on plastic components to prevent electromagnetic interruptions from other devices. This also protects external electronic devices from electrical interference that would otherwise be caused by your component.
Our coatings will shield and reflect all electromagnetic waves ranging from radio waves to ultraviolet waves. Rare Earth Coatings, Inc., can achieve a conductivity rating of less than 1 ohm per square inch and 72 db continuous. REC can provide proper fixtures and masking designed to meet your specifications.
RFI Shielding
RFI shielding, or radio frequency interference is similar to EMI shielding, however, it is specifically designed to block radio waves from interfering with electrical mechanisms. This coating will also shield against electromagnetic interference.

Conductive Coatings
Rare Earth Coatings, Inc., can provide a conductive coating to meet 1 ohm per square inch resistance. Although all metals are conductive, the most commonly used conductive metals are aluminum, copper, silver, and gold.

Reflective Coatings
Rare Earth Coatings, Inc., specializes in high quality reflective coatings. Our coatings can provide up to 94% reflectivity of visible light. This process is most commonly used on plastic or glass. REC has the capability to apply a highly reflective coating directly on to light bulbs to dramatically increase light output. We use this process on aircraft navigational lamps. REC provides high quality reflective coatings on numerous products ranging from commercial reflectors to reflectors for military projects with precise specifications.

Reflective Heat Shields
Our reflective coatings will shield and reflect all electromagnetic waves ranging from radio waves to ultraviolet waves. REC can create a heat shield capable of reflecting heat or infrared waves. This process is commonly used on light fixtures to reflect heat. This prevents the housing from overheating as well as reflects visible light thus increasing light output. This process can be used on products ranging from lighting fixtures to satellite components. We provide our customers with a wide range of reflective coatings to meet their specifications.

Anti-Reflective Coatings
Rare Earth Coatings, Inc., can apply an anti-reflective coating to optical materials that will provide an average of less than 2% reflection. We have the capabilities to provide a uniform 1/4" l coating of magnesium fluoride. When applied to glass this process produces an extremely hard coating. Using this newly developed process we have the capabilities to do high volume runs with a quick turn around time. Our coating meets Military Specification Mil-C-675C.

Dielectric Coatings
Rare Earth Coatings, Inc., can provide dielectric coatings to several substrates. Metals, plastics, or glass are the most commonly used. Dielectrics are non-conductive thin films that are commonly used as insulators or protective coatings. Many dielectrics also serve as scratch resistant coatings. Each dielectric will serve an individual purpose. For example, Aluminum oxide is a high temperature non-conductive protective layer. Silicon oxides are hard durable films with a low refractive index and are used as an insulating layer. If you have a question as to which dielectric coating will meet your requirements, we will be happy to assist you.

Decorative Coatings
Rare Earth Coatings, Inc., provides decorative coatings on products to suit our customers individual needs. We can apply any of our featured metals to give you the look you desire. When requested, REC can achieve a wide range of chrome shades, gold, or a stainless steal look. REC also has the capabilities to apply a colored metallic coating.
Protective Coatings
Rare Earth Coatings, Inc., can provide our customers with a protective coating over a metallized or non-metallized surface. These protective coatings are used to give the surface scratch resistant, chemical resistant, corrosion resistant, and wear resistant properties. REC offers our customers the option of having a protective layer applied to our metallized surface to protect the coating. We work with a variety of protective coatings to fit the specific application of the product. Several of these protective layers will pass chemical warfare tests, salt spray tests, thermal cycle tests, and corrosion tests. We have protective coatings that have passed UL approval. REC uses a Chemical Conversion Coating that meets Military Specification MIL-C-5541E class 3. This coating is formed by the reaction of chemical conversion materials and the surface of aluminum and aluminum alloys. It will convert the top few molecular layers of aluminum into a protective layer of chrome. This coating will pass all tests mentioned above.

Prototype Coatings
Rare Earth Coatings, Inc. has an extensive background in working with prototypes. REC can provide your prototypes with any of our coatings listed above. REC has also helped many companies in the research and development stage of their product life cycle to decide which coatings and materials may be the most beneficial. If you have any questions or need any guidance on which coatings meet your specifications, give us a call and we will be happy to assist you.
SLA material
REC understands that your SLA parts are delicate; therefore, we handle your parts with special care to make sure that you receive them with a quality coating. We can coat your parts with any of our processes or materials that will meet your specifications.
